Dr. Elbert Huang is Professor of Medicine and Public Health Sciences, Director of the Center for Chronic Disease Research and Policy at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Huang is a clinical investigator who has made significant contributions in patient-oriented diabetes translational and policy research. He is best known for his work in medical decision making in diabetes care for older people and the cost-effectiveness analysis of diabetes treatments and programs. Using methods from health economics, the decision sciences, and clinical epidemiology, his research has provided the theoretical and evidence-base foundation for the concept of personalizing diabetes care goals and treatments in older people. Dr. Huang has also applied research methods from the decision sciences to study the cost-effectiveness of new interventions and policies from the perspective of policymakers.
